i feel like this may qualify as the unpopular vote, but i really would love to see the giants draft a running back first.
all the talk has been about getting a new, young quarterback in this upcoming draft. yes, that’d be great considering this draft pool and that eli manning isn’t getting any younger. but what about davis webb? the rookie has been inactive on the sidelines allll season. a season that went downhill quick and never recovered - to put it mildly. looking at the horrendous offense, there came a time where it was pointless/unnecessary for manning to play, let alone start games at all. he was just risking an injury at that point. yes, after the whole start streak debacle with former head coach ben mcadoo, manning deserved to be back at starting qb. but... davis webb deserved to see some play time - any kind of play time. whether there was a potential to win or they were down by 20+ points, webb deserved to see some pro action. he was gaining knowledge while watching from the sideline and from one-on-ones with manning, sure, but the giants failed their rookie qb who could have grown and gained some experience.

a star power reunion in cleveland?
it looks as though dwyane wade will be reuniting with friend and former teammate lebron james. after agreeing to a buyout with the chicago bulls on sunday, the vertical’s shams charania and other league sources are reporting that wade is set to sign a one-year, $2.3 million contract with the cavaliers. the cavs lost a key component in kyrie irving this offseason but gained isiah thomas. now, wade will be the icing on the cake to help lebron lead a successful season... a.k.a. make a run against the warriors again. wade and lebron were teammates from 2010-2014 with the miami heat - two out of “the big three” of course. who doesn’t love a good reunion? wade just has to clear waivers on wednesday and then it’s official. am i the only one who can't keep up with this odell beckham jr injury?
after being a "game-time decision" and ultimately sitting game one, reports came out that he was practicing this week and would be ready for game two. then i heard that beckham himself said he was dealing with a "six-to-eight week injury." let your ankle heal odell, let it heal. now, the latest is that beckham is "questionable" for game two monday night against the lions. espn's adam schefter reported sunday that the giants believe there is a "good chance" that he could play but that it's "still up in the air." if your star wideout has a high ankle sprain - and he was told to take it like a six-to-eight week injury - let him have some more time. beckham returned to practice september 14, the first time in a month. espn's dianna russini reported that he was "limited" in practice and yet head coach ben mcadoo was "optimistic" for game two. no. just no. coach mcadoo: you have sterling shephard. you have brandon marshall - who really needs to step it up after his game one outing. work with these two players and let beckham have more time to heal. there are plenty of players on the team who can fill the void until beckham is healed. the last thing we need is beckham coming back too soon, further injuring his ankle and missing more time... or even *knock on wood* playoff time. let's just hope that this is the giants playing mind games and messing with the lions and are not really hoping that beckham can play monday. he has a high ankle sprain people. The craziness surrounding the Knicks organization continues following Charles Oakley's outburst at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.
It was reported Friday that the Knicks legend was banned from MSG after being ejected during Wednesday's game and then arrested soon after. Team owner James Dolan called for Oakley's ban. During an interview on the Michael Kay Show on Friday, Dolan was quick to make accusations and showed no support for the former player. "He has a problem with anger," Dolan said. "He's both physically and verbally abusive. He may have a problem with alcohol. We don't know. But those behaviors of being physically and verbally abusive, those are personality problems." The team had released two statements following the incident but they were just to throw Oakley under the bus. The organization seemed to jump to conclusions without getting the former player's point of view. Oakley said afterward that he had "a couple drinks" but before entering the Garden. When asked if the Knicks should be embarrassed for what has happened in the last 48 hours, Dolan responded: "I would say that Charles should be embarrassed." For the sake of the team and its reputation, let's hope that this all gets resolved soon. as a new york giants fan, the new england patriots and tom brady are 2 things i have absolutely no interest in. as tough as it was for me to admit... (i might have said the game was staged) ... the patriots pulled off the best super bowl victory in history.
i was in full support of the atlanta falcons since they beat the packers in the NFC championship. they gained lots of support from other fan bases, matt ryan won league MVP and the team seemed ready for their first-ever super bowl appearance. as the game got closer, it was sounding like almost too many people were favoring the falcons. i love rooting for the underdog but i didn't want to see them under pressure or be jinxed. it would have been great to see history with atlanta getting their 1st super bowl trophy - FOX compared sports championships between boston and atlanta and, if you didn't see it, all you need to know is that atlanta has 1 championship ever (shoutout to the 1995 braves) and boston has won plenty. the 1st half of the game was great - almost too good to be true. matt ryan and the falcons' offense continued to shine and their underrated defense held the patriots to just 3 points. enter lady gaga's halftime performance and the game turned the other way. tom brady is 1 of the quarterbacks in this league that you can never, ever count out... even if he was down 25 points (the largest super bowl deficit in his career). the patriots slowly started a comeback and a 19-point 4th quarter led to the 1st overtime in super bowl history. did i mention julian edelman's catch? let's talk about that for a second. 1st of all... i still don't understand how he caught that. and 2nd... the giants' fan in me wants to believe that david tyree's helmet catch in SB 42 was still a better catch but i am honestly not even sure. julio jones started off with the impressive in-bounds catch that could've been the play of the game until edelman's so-called tyree 2.0. in the end, we did see some super bowl history... just not the history i personally wanted to see. tom brady proved that he really is the greatest of all time - it unfortunately can't be up for debate with his 5 SB wins. he and head coach bill belichick are the top coach-QB duo in the league. the best part in all of this? shoving the lombardi trophy in commissioner roger goodell's face after the infamous deflate gate. that's a whole other story - i, for one, supported deflate gate - but goodell deserves some sort of backlash, right? okay... enough talking about brady and the patriots. eli manning is the only other active player on the list of most SB wins by a QB... and let's not forget who handed brady his only 2 SB losses. the new york rangers seem to have finally found their match for a head coach long-term.
after a few coaching changes every few years, alain vigneault has been the most consistent since coming to new york in 2013. with a year left in his contract, the rangers' organization extended him for 3 more years. the extension was announced on the team's official twitter account on january 31st. without stating the extension length, the account followed with tweets about vigneault's success with the blueshirts. "i feel i have never been more driven than i am at this point," vigneault said according to the rangers' twitter account. since taking over the helm before the 2013-2014 season, vigneault leads all rangers' head coaches (with a minimum of 100 games coached) in point percentage in franchise history with .632. under vigneault, the rangers rank 3rd in the NHL and lead the eastern conference in wins with 175. vigneualt is 175-97-23 as the rangers' head coach. in his 1st season, the rangers reached the 2014 stanley cup final - 20 years after winning it all. however, they lost to the los angeles kings in 5 games. the terms of the contract extension have not been confirmed but ESPN.com reported that it would be $12.25 million over the next 3 seasons, $4 million in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and then $4.25 million in 2019-20. so far this season, the rangers are 31-17-1 and 4th in the metropolitan division. they've totaled 165 goals, which is the 2nd-most in the NHL. the 2nd-half of the season starts tonight and the rangers are up against former coach john tortorella and the columbus blue jackets. who's still not over that giants' win last night?? me, definitely me.
let's be honest. entering this sunday night football game, the dallas cowboys were on the hottest streak in the NFL. most giants fans can agree that it was a little tough to be optimistic about our team pulling through with a win. everything was on the cowboys' side. we were coming off an embarassing loss to the steelers, losing jason pierre-paul to injury. the giants were already looking at a difficult game against the cowboys. but playing without JPP was even worse... or so we thought. there weren't many people who were confident in the giants getting a win in the first place. once JPP was ruled out, most of us thought that big blue didn't stand a chance. but boy were we wrong. sunday night's game proved that all of the free agent spending in the offseason was worth it. the defense never looked better - well, since the days of justin tuck and michael strahan. it was crucial for the defense to be strong because the offense had another tough game... i lost track of how many interceptions eli threw. forgetting about the ugly plays, the new york giants beat the dallas cowboys once again. let's take it all in for a second. it feels pretty awesome to be the only team to do that this season... and to end our rival's 11-game win streak. here's hoping for another meeting in january. as a die-hard ny football giants' fan, i wasn't sure what to expect from them after their bye week. each game, you're not 100% sure which giants team is going to come out - it could be the team that scores 4+ touchdowns or the team that allows 4+ TDs and can't find the end zone themselves.
